Why should we choose Auburn High School? What are the key differences between Auburn and other schools in the district?
Auburn High School was launched in January 2014 and is already achieving its vision of engaging young people with high quality education.
We are receiving lots of support from the local community and numbers are growing quickly.
Our goal is to create a truly outstanding school that schieves excellent results.
Our teaching staff is committed to delivering our vision and building the best possible school.
Our programs are innovative, engaging and challenge each student in their learning so that students can work to the best of their ability.
We have high expectations of our students, teachers and the school leadership team.
We teach our students life skills and habits that will provide a strong foundation for their learning and create success in their lives both at and beyond school. For example, we have a strong focus on promoting teamwork and resilience and creating good global citizens.
A range of programs distinguishes Auburn High School from all other schools in the area, including:
- Bi-national French program. Read more here.
- An accredited Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program. Read more here.
- Emphasis on high-level science, engineering, mathematics and technology.
- A Pathways Approach in VCE. Read more under our section entitled “AHS Careers”.
Are there fees?
Yes. There is a Materials and Services Fee as well as Voluntary Contributions. Fees will total $600 per year and cover things such as technology, classroom materials, school improvement initiatives, etc.
There is also a fee for enrolment in the Bi-national French program.
It is an expectation that all families will pay the school fees, unless special consideration is applied for and approved.
How is technology being used?
Our approach is rich in the use of technology and all students have 1:1 access to notebooks (laptops), iPads and desktop computers to support their learning.
Is the uniform compulsory?
The school has a strict uniform policy which requires all students to be in full and correct uniform each school day. It is rigorously enforced.
The Uniform Policy and information sheet Uniform Policy (28.10.14) sets out the uniform requirements enforced in the school.
Uniforms can only be purchased from the School Uniform Shop. The opening hours are:
- Monday, 1:20 pm – 1:50 pm
- Tuesday, 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm
- Thursday, 1:20 pm – 1:50 pm
I hear that the school offers a VCE Pathways Approach? What does this mean?
The VCE Pathways approach is designed to assist students to get into the tertiary course of their choice.
Students are asked to choose VCE studies that have identified pathways into particular tertiary courses, rather than the traditional approach of selecting a range of subjects that may or may not be related to a particular pathway.
At Auburn High School, we encourage our students to consider where their future interests and preferences might be focused and we assist them in choosing the most appropriate VCE subjects required to take them there.
Why should we choose a government school over an independent school?
Our area of Melbourne has a range of outstanding schools, both government and independent. Government schools provide the advantage of a high quality education with no school tuition fees as they are funded by the government. We do charge voluntary contributions which cover some additional resources.
Auburn High School offers specialist programs, a broad general curriculum and excellent facilities. The class areas are designed to promote a modern approach to teaching and learning, encouraging independent learning, collaboration and access to teachers.
Together with its highly talented and committed staff Auburn High School provides families with an excellent choice in education.
