Auburn High School became an authorised IB World School in 2022 after several years of community consultation, staff training and familiarisation, and began teaching the IB Diploma Programme in 2023. We are one of few Victorian Government schools that is authorised to deliver the Diploma Programme and this complements our French Binational and French Partial Immersion Programmes.

The Diploma Programme is a two-year course designed to develop internationally minded global citizens. This program is overseen by the International Baccalaureate Organisation and aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The programme encourages students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners. These values strongly align with Auburn High School’s DARE values and the Auburn Learner Qualities (ALQs).

Students completing the Diploma have opportunities to engage with learning opportunities within and outside of the classroom. Students complete six academic subjects (at least one from each group), three are taken at a Higher Level (HL) and three are taken at a Standard Level (SL).

In addition to the six academic subjects, students also complete the Extended Essay (EE), Creativity Activity Service (CAS), and Theory of Knowledge (TOK). These three components of the DP make up the core and allow students to be rewarded for their engagement with the community, and create links between their subjects and the real-world.

Each academic subject is graded between 1 and 7, in addition to a mark out of 3 for the core, making up a total score out of 45. This score out of 45 can be converted into an ATAR score for students seeking tertiary education in Australia. The conversion is calculated at the end of every year and translates very favourably as an ATAR. The score out of 45 can also be used to access overseas universities as the DP is recognised internationally as a strong senior school program aimed at developing internationally minded students.
