Auburn High School is dedicated to offering its students a wide range of opportunities to engage meaningfully with their community, both within and beyond the school. Through a wide range of physical education programs and health initiatives, students across all year levels have developed critical life skills, promoting teamwork, leadership, and a commitment to social justice.

Auburn High School’s Health and Physical Education program fosters personal growth, teamwork, and leadership across all year levels. Students engage in diverse activities, from Sofcrosse and Dance to Ball Sports and Fitness, building skills in collaboration, adaptability, and sportsmanship. Leadership opportunities are embedded throughout the curriculum, with roles such as team captains, umpires, and coaches allowing students to develop decision-making, responsibility, and the ability to inspire others.

Programs like Sports Coaching and Sport Science empower students to apply their learning in real-world contexts, whether by designing lessons for younger students or creating personalized fitness plans to promote health and wellbeing. Senior students take their education further, addressing barriers to physical activity, advocating for healthy living, and exploring solutions to real-world health challenges that promote social justice and equity.

Through these initiatives, Auburn High School equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in physical activity and contribute positively to their community. The emphasis on sportsmanship, respect, and wellbeing prepares students to be active, informed citizens both within and beyond the school.

Each term, Auburn High Students participate in inter school sports in the Mullum Secondary division as part of School Sports Victoria (SSV). Students will be representing Auburn High School and if they are successful, they have the opportunity to advance to further rounds such as the Eastern Metropolitan Region and State competitions. The secondary school sport program is extensive and inclusive as it caters for the needs and skills of all students. Some sports include:

  • Australian Rules Football
  • Badminton
  • Baseball / Softball
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Soccer
  • Netball
  • Table Tennis
  • Volleyball

House spirit is a cornerstone of Auburn High School culture, with students proudly showcasing their skills and competitive drive during our annual House Swimming, Athletics, and Cross Country events. Representing the four House Teams—Winton, Hollows, Freeman, and Murdoch—these events foster a strong sense of community, belonging, and school pride.

Participation goes beyond competition, encouraging teamwork, leadership, and resilience as students unite to achieve shared goals. By taking part in these events, students build lifelong connections, develop a sense of responsibility, and contribute to a positive school environment where effort and enthusiasm are celebrated.
