Services that are local to Boroondara that assist families and young people in a range of ways

Offers a range of youth programs for those aged 10 to 25 years who live, work or study in the City of Boroondara. The programs include leadership opportunities, creative and performing arts groups, and social/life skills groups

Camcare is a local community agency providing free support and connections to other services without the need for a GP referral. This service is available for individuals who live, work, or study in the City of Boroondara.

The Salvation Army Camberwell provides financial counselling services for individuals and families.

This program serves as a central access point for people experiencing severe mental illness, as well as their carers and family members.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Hubs help with issues such as anxiety, low mood, and substance use or addiction. These services do not require a GP or health professional referral and are available Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Resilience, Self-Care and Relationships

Local, state and national mental health services

Headspace Hawthorn supports young people aged 12-25 years by providing information, advice, and services related to mental health and wellbeing.

Offers confidential telephone and online counselling services for young people aged 5–25 for any reason.

A general crisis telephone counselling, information, and referral service staffed by trained volunteers supported by professionals. Text and online chat services are also available.

Provides anonymous peer support and referral services for people identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and/or intersex (LGBTI). Telephone and webchat support are available.

Provides support to people experiencing loss and grief, at any stage in life. Moderated online forums are also available.

Supports people who feel suicidal, those concerned about someone who may be suicidal, and people grieving or emotionally affected by suicide. Online chat and video chat services are available.

Offers telephone, video, and online counselling for individuals aged 15 and older who are affected by suicide. This includes those feeling suicidal, worried about someone, caring for someone, bereaved by suicide, or health professionals supporting affected individuals.

Provides free, confidential information, support, and referrals for family, carers, and friends of people experiencing mental illness.

Offers support, information, and referrals for women on various issues, including family relationships, domestic violence, housing, mental health, and career advice.

Provides telephone and online chat/video counselling services for men experiencing family and relationship concerns. Staffed by professional counsellors experienced in men’s issues.

Health

Advice and support for a range of health-related issues

Access Health and Community offers a broad range of general health services by appointment. Including support for drug and alcohol.

Provides support, information, and resources on quitting smoking. Quitline helps individuals prepare quit plans and develop strategies to overcome cravings, triggers, and other challenges.

Provides information, counselling, and referrals for young people, families, youth workers, and school staff affected by drug and alcohol use.

Provides information and referrals for sexual and reproductive health, including contraception, unplanned pregnancy, abortion, and sexual health care.

At Auburn High School, we are committed to the safety and wellbeing of all members of our school community. Below are key external services that provide advice and support for individuals experiencing family violence, as well as for schools and professionals assisting those in need:

Safe Steps is Victoria’s state-wide family violence crisis support service for women and children. They offer immediate crisis assistance, refuge options, and information in 10 languages. You can contact them 24/7 by phone or email or through online chat (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 9 pm).

This state-wide phone service offers support and information for men who are concerned about their behaviours or have used violence.

This national service provides confidential counselling, advice, and support for people experiencing family violence or sexual assault. Their website offers resources in 29 languages. They also provide debriefing services for family, friends, and professionals supporting those affected.

The Orange Door offers free services for adults, children, and young people experiencing family violence or needing extra support with the care of children. Schools can seek expert advice and referral options through area-based specialist family violence services.

SASVic is the peak body for sexual assault and harmful sexual behaviour services in Victoria. They promote recovery, respect, and rights for victim survivors of sexual violence. School staff can locate free and confidential specialist support services for victim survivors and their families.

This state-wide after-hours confidential telephone service supports people who have experienced past or recent sexual assault.

InTouch provides state-wide family violence support for multicultural women, men, their families, and communities. They can assist with information on family violence, visa-related issues, family court matters, and case management.

Djirra is an Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service supporting Aboriginal individuals (both women and men) experiencing family violence. They also assist non-Aboriginal people who are parents of Aboriginal children.
