Careers & Pathways

Career Education at Auburn High School

At Auburn High School, we believe that effective career education is key to supporting our students’ personal growth, learning, and wellbeing. Our program helps students gain the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their future pathways.

Career Education in the Curriculum

From Year 7, career education is integrated across all learning areas to support students in exploring their strengths, values, and career goals. The three core competencies of the Victorian Career Education Framework form the foundation for career education teaching and learning at our school:

  • Know Yourself: Discover strengths, talents, values, and interests.
  • Know Your World: Explore career possibilities and understand the world of work.
  • Manage Your Future: Set goals, make informed choices, and take actionable steps.

The core competencies are designed to guide students through a reflective and proactive process as they develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their options, and their futures.

Career Education Activities for Years 7-12

Our comprehensive program includes:

From Year 9, students create and update their Career Action Plan annually to reflect on their evolving strengths and goals, and to track their progress towards their goals. These plans are shared with parents and carers as part of the school reporting process, fostering collaboration and greater engagement in the student’s career development. Subject counselling and work-based learning goals and opportunities are documented to guide their journey.

Using the globally recognised Morrisby tool, Year 9 students gain a personalised career profile that reflects their aptitudes, interests, and potential career matches, guiding them to explore pathways that align with their strengths and interests. The program includes a one-on-one consultation with an independent career consultant. This provides further personalised guidance to help students explore their options and set realistic career goals.

Work-based learning experiences, including excursions, industry immersion programs, and work experience, give students hands-on exposure to industry and develop critical employability skills, enhance engagement and improve career readiness.

Course and career counselling offers ongoing, tailored support to guide students in making informed decisions about subject selections and post-school pathways that align with their strengths and aspirations.
