Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is a senior secondary qualification that prepares students for further education, training, or employment. At our school, VCE offers a broad selection of subjects across sciences, humanities, French language, mathematics, and the arts. Students are supported by staff to design their courses to align with their career aspirations and personal interests. High-achieving students may also undertake VCE Extension Studies, allowing them to gain university-level experience while still in high school. Our dedicated teachers provide expert guidance and support, helping students achieve their best possible results. Successful completion of VCE provides an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), which is used for university entry. With a strong focus on academic excellence, critical thinking, and independent learning, VCE equips students with the skills needed for success in higher education and beyond.
Victorian Pathways Certificate (VM)
The Victorian Pathways Certificate (VM) is a flexible and applied learning pathway designed for students seeking hands-on, real-world education. This program supports students who thrive in practical environments and may be looking towards vocational training, apprenticeships, or direct entry into the workforce. VM integrates academic learning with industry experience, incorporating work placements, community projects, and applied learning activities to develop essential skills. Students engage in literacy, numeracy, personal development, and work-related skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future careers. The program values collaboration, problem-solving, and adaptability—key qualities for success in various industries. Our school partners with TAFEs and industry professionals to provide students with meaningful learning experiences. VM is an excellent option for students who prefer practical learning over traditional academic pathways, allowing them to gain recognised qualifications and workplace readiness while still at school.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a globally recognised qualification that emphasises academic rigour, critical thinking, and international-mindedness. Auburn High School offers the IB as an alternative to VCE, catering to students who seek a broad, challenging, and internationally focused education. Students who select the IB DP do so as they are suited to an independent, and enquiry based style of learning. The IB curriculum consists of six subject groups, including languages, sciences, mathematics, humanities, and the arts, alongside core components such as Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). These elements encourage students to think critically, conduct independent research, and engage with their communities. IB assessments include coursework, internal assessments, and external examinations. Successful completion of the IB Diploma is highly regarded by universities worldwide and can provide entry into leading institutions both in Australia and overseas. Students completing the IB DP are provided a ATAR equivalent to assist with university enrolments. For more information please see the designated page on our website.
